photoEVENTS & ACTIVITIES

The following activities are held routinely on either a district or chapter level. Most meetings begin with the SGI members chanting and reciting portions of the Lotus Sutra for the first 20 minutes or so. Guests are welcome to attend and all events are free of charge.

World Peace Prayer Meeting: Generally held the first Sunday of each month. The two chapters in the Richmond are (First Freedom Chapter and James River South Chapter) each hold meetings at local hotels in Richmond and Chester. These larger meetings often include presentations on Buddhist principles, experiences, performances and encouragement.

District Discussion Meeting: Generally held monthly at the home of an SGI-USA member. Meetings will often include explanations of Buddhist practice, experiences and study of Buddhist principles. This is a great opportunity for guests to learn about Buddhism and ask questions in a small group setting.

Study Meetings: There is usually at least one study meeting each month with a focus on studying the writings of Nichiren Daishion and the basic principles of Buddhism. "Without practice and study, there can be no Buddhism." The True Aspect of All Phenomena by Nichiren (1273).

Chanting Sessions: At these meetings people chant together for most of the meeting time which could be an hour or more. An excelent way to "catch the rhythm" of chanting!
